Writing and deleting magnets with lasers

Scientists at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) together with colleagues from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, USA have found a way to write and delete magnets in an alloy using a laser beam – a surprising effect. The reversibility of the process opens up new possibilities in the fields of material processing, optical technology, and data storage.

HZDR: Partner at "Network Dresden - City of Science"
In 2006, the city of Dresden carried the title "City of Science", and founded the network Dresden - City of Science(5), which has been active ever since. One popular event supported by the network partners in Dresden is the Dresden Long Night of Sciences(6).
"Charter of Diversity"
HZDR is a member of the "Charter of Diversity"(7), an initiative encouraging diversity in business companies and public institutions. It is supported by the German federal government, the chancellor of Germany being its patron.
