Research
We encounter fluid flow every day in nature and technology. They can be fascinating and complex at the same time. Our institute is dedicated to the fundamental understanding of complex flow phenomena and their modelling and simulation, from mass transport at interfaces to convection in the interior of planets and galaxies. In detail we deal with the
- Research into fundamentals of momentum, mass and heat transfer in complex fluids on all scales
- Development of simulation tools for the design, optimisation and safety assessment of energy and process engineering systems
- Development and application of new measurement and imaging techniques for analysing multiphase and liquid metal flows
- Application of experimental and numerical methods to improve technical processes in energy, process and environmental engineering
- Gain a basic understanding of geophysical and astrophysical phenomena, such as the formation and change of the Earth's magnetic field and momentum and mass transport in cosmic accretion discs
Fields of research:
- Fluid Dynamics of Resource Technology Processes
- Energy Systems Engineering
- Magnetohydrodynamics in Geophysics and Astrophysics
To this end, the institute develops and uses methods of
