International researchers meet for the summer school "Smart Devices and Their Applications"

Intelligent devices and their applications are in focus of a summer school taking place from June 5th to 7th, 2023 at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). Together with partners from France and Austria, the group of Dr. Denys Makarov from the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research at HZDR has been working for more than two years within the EU project BIONANOSENS, which is coordinated by the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics in Ukraine. The aim of the event is to expand the technology transfer potential for Ukrainian research institutions in the area of biosensors and biotechnology. Building on the experience of the three EU partners from Germany, Austria and France, the Ukrainian institution wants to establish similar processes in their research and technology transfer activities.

The summer school will host about 30 participants and target state of the art research in analytical biotechnology, in particular biomolecular electronics, and discuss the application of intelligent biosensors in medicine, ecology and industry. 18 participants will arrive from Ukraine. Some of the young Ukrainian researchers have received awards as part of the innovation contest initiated in the frame of the BIOANOSENS project. In addition to purely scientific topics, the program of the summer school includes lectures and workshops on funding applications, the management of EU-funded research projects and technology transfer.

“At HZDR we emphasize our support to Ukraine and Ukrainian researchers. Together with partners of the BIONANOSENS consortium, we are honoured to help our colleagues from Ukraine establishing a strong application-oriented research on the topic of bio-nano-technologies for sustainable future. We will share our best-practice examples of research and technology transfer activities to further develop entrepreneurial spirit among the young generation of Ukrainian researchers”, says Makarov.
