We offer hands-on research!

Take the opportunity and apply for a student or voluntary internship!

The HZDR offers you the opportunity to gain an initial insight into the professional and working world of research. You can gain first experience in the laboratory, in administration or in the workshop, work on a small project or solve problems independently.

To apply for an internship with us, please send us the following application documents:

  • cover letter
  • resume
  • latest school certificate

Please indicate on your cover letter your preferred internship period and name a maximum of three research institutes or departments where you would like to complete your internship.

Jugend forscht

As part of the nationwide "Jugend forscht" competition, the HZDR also offers special prizes in the form of three to four-week research internships. These prizes are awarded by the Hamburg headquarters of "Jugend forscht".

You can complete your internship in the following areas:

  • Physics, material sciences, mathematics
  • Chemistry, radiochemistry, radiopharmacy
  • Electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering
  • Geosciences, geotechnical engineering, mining
  • Library and administration

Please note that you can only work in the laboratories of our chemical institutes (Institute for Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research, Institute for Resource Ecology and Institute for Radiooncology - OncoRay) if you are at least 18 years old.
