Special commitment and outstanding achievements of our employees deserve additional recognition. For this reason, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) bestows the following awards every year:

  • HZDR Research Award
  • HZDR Technology and Innovation Award
  • HZDR PhD Award
  • HZDR Prize for Scientific Communication

The Board of Directors handed over the awards at a ceremony in the main lecture hall on May 23, 2023.

Research Award

... to Dr. Ruslan Salikhov (Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research) and Dr. Sergey Kovalev (Institute of Radiation Physics) for outstanding research in the fields of magnetization dynamics and THz spectroscopy. Through cross-institute collaboration, the team succeeded in experimentally demonstrating the excitation of magnetic spin waves with THz radiation.

Technology and Innovation Award

... to Dr. Arie Irman, Dr. Jurjen Couperus, Dr. Amin Ghaith, Dr. Maxwell LaBerge, Dr. Yen-Yu Chang, Susanne Schöbel and Patrick Ufer (Institute of Radiation Physics) for the realization of a compact plasma accelerator-driven free-electron laser. The breakthrough achieved with the demonstration of coherent FEL radiation after a laser wakefield accelerator is probably the most well-known milestone in this field in the last 15 years and will drive the further development of compact FELs internationally.

PhD Awards

... to Dr. Rebecca Rothe (Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research) for her PhD thesis on In-vivo- und In-vitro-Charakterisierung neuartiger Hydrogele zur lokalen Tumortherapie des malignen Melanoms.

... to Dr. Julia Neumann (Institute of Resource Ecology) for her PhD thesis on Strukturelle Untersuchung der Rückhaltung von Actiniden und ihrer Übergangsmetallhomologe an ausgewählte Alumosilikat-Phasen.

... to Dr. Klara Lünser (Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research) for her PhD thesis on Martensitische Phasenumwandlungen und Zwillingsbildung in epitaktisch gewachsenen Nickel-Titan-Schichten.

Award for Scientific Communication

... to Dr. Anna Vanderbruggen (Helmholtz Institute for Resource Technology) for her successful use of social media to communicate her research achievements in the field of battery recycling.
