IHRS NanoNet was funded by the Initiative and Networking Fund of Helmholtz Association (VH-KO-606) until Dec 2020.

Eligibility

The programme is open to students of all nationalities holding (or about to earn) a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, or materials science. If you are still studying (i.e. about to earn your degree) you are also eligible to apply if you anticipate receiving your degree no later than 6 months after the application.

Candidates holding an excellent BSc degree are also welcome to apply. In this case, additional requirements defined on a case-to-case basis (e.g. the completion of a set of extra courses) will need to be fulfilled during the programme.

The candidates should demonstrate high motivation and interest in joining the research school, and a propensity to work and collaborate in a strongly interdisciplinary, multicultural environment.

The official language of the NanoNet programme is English. Therefore, very good oral and written communication skills in English are required, corresponding to, e.g., B2 (CEFR), 6.5 (IELTS), 75 (TOEFL iBT), 175 (Cambridge English Scale), or UniCert II.

Applications from candidates already affiliated to a member of the consortium

If you are already affiliated to one of the members of the consortium, you are welcome to apply at any time. You are required to use the same application procedure as non-affiliated candidates.

Applications from candidates with (or applying to) a mobility programme fellowship

If you would like to join the Doctoral programme of the IHRS NanoNet but already have or would like to apply to a mobility programme fellowship, we welcome your application.

If you already have a fellowship, please contact the coordinator.

If you would like to apply for a mobility programme fellowship, you can find a list of programmes at the DAAD data base. For support during your application, please contact the principal investigator of the research group you would like to work with.

If you have any additional inquiry, please contact the IHRS NanoNet coordinator (nanonet@hzdr.de).
