Selection
The successful doctoral candidates will be selected based on their academic qualifications, aptitude, scientific interests, motivation, and recommendation letters.
How are the doctoral candidates selected?
- Complete applications will be reviewed and pre-ranked by the research school coordinator. Selected students may be invited for a phone or video interview to clarify certain aspects of their application.
- The NanoNet steering committee will then short-list the best candidates (max. 20) to be invited to a selection workshop in Dresden. Complete applications of the successful candidates will be forwarded to all participating NanoNet principal investigators.
- The selection workshop is typically a 2-days event in Dresden. The IHRS NanoNet will cover the travel and accommodation expenses of the invited candidates. The selection workshop includes:
- short oral presentations where the candidates present a research project proposal to the NanoNet principal investigators,
- personal interviews with the preferred principal investigators,
- lab tours to the preferred institutions,
- informal get-together to learn more about current research projects and the PhD program of the IHRS NanoNet.
- At the end of the selection workshop, all principal investigators will meet to decide which candidates will be invited to join the IHRS NanoNet. Invitations will be sent to the successful candidates within 2 weeks after the general meeting.
- The successful candidates will be offered a position according to their preferences and should accept or decline the offer within 2 weeks.
BTW. There won't be any scholarships available in 2024.
