Department of Positron Emission Tomography

The importance of detailed functional/anatomical visualization and accurate quantification of functional processes for detection and assessment of malignant tissues continues to increase, especially in the context of personalized oncology. Functional molecular imaging requires dedicated state-of-the-art devices, notably PET/CT and PET/MR, for pre-clinical and clinical investigations, as well as suitable molecular probes such as novel radiotracers. Equally important are optimal algorithms and data evaluation procedures tailored for the tasks at hand. The Department of Positron Emission Tomography is engaged in development, evaluation, and validation of algorithms, procedures, and tools – including their translation into clinical use – for improvement of preclinical and clinical quantitative functional PET/MRI and PET/CT imaging.

Our research is addressing multiple aspects of the image data acquisition and processing chain, including, among others, image reconstruction, motion correction, modelling of transport and metabolic processes, quantification of tumor shape irregularities, and statistical analysis. More detailed information regarding currently persued projects can be found in the links below.
